Get Well Card

I made this card today for my mom who had a minor surgery. I used the Silhouette shapes “nurses tools” and inked the edges for extra depth. To get the tiny letters I cut them out of white vinyl with the font “Honey Script.”  I just made sure my transfer tape was really low tack so it transferred O.K. to the paper.

I’m waiting for a new blade for my Silhouette, but it still did well on the vinyl and on these simple shapes. Whew!

  • Hi Kelly,
I hope your Mother is on the mend and feeling well…I must say that I really enjoy your posts on Sil blog and Flickr. I do not have a yahoo acct., so I'm not able to comment on the flickr site. I hope you don't mind me contacting you here to ask for some help.It seems to me that you know quite a bit about working with the silhouette and imported images. I do alot of copying and pasting of JPEGs. I haven't really had too much trouble doing what I would like to do with them, tracing, print and cut etc. But I ordered the sweetest digital stamps called Pure Innocence. You've probably seen them somewhere in the scrapping blogosphere… I can get them on my page, but I just can't figure out how to divide it, fill each piece and then put them back together… I could just print it and color with markers, but you and I both know that is no fun when you can fill shapes with such cute designs… I need to give her a polka dot dress for example… I know that you are a busy mom, I actually miss those days… But if you have a chance to get back to me I would really appreciate it. The only program I have on my computer is PAINT and when I try to fill in a shape it doesn't fill it all the way. It would be too hard to freehand it. Thanks Kelly from your Bloggy friend Marcy E. menzbigili@comcast.net

  • Hi Kelly,
It's me again… I think it must have something to do with the compound path command… That is the only thing that really gives me trouble. I've used it a couple times, but I'm still waiting for that Aha!!! moment when I know exactly how to use it. If I get it figured out, I'll let you know.
P.S. I really appreciate how detailed your tutorials are.

  • Marcy, I sent you a detailed email with my solution. Basically, you're going to draw your own shapes and fill those with patterns or color. It doesn't take that long and this way the printer colors it instead of you!

  • Kelly, tell your friends thank you for the well wishes. A week later and Mom is digging in the garden, weeding, digging grass out of planter areas and shoveling bark into bare patches.
