Over the Hill Decorations

I surprised my older sister this weekend with an “Over the Hill” party since the big day’s coming up next week and we don’t get to see each other very often.  I lured her and her family over and surprised her with decorations and cake and ice cream.

These decorations looked pretty big as I was making them in my craft room, but once I put them up in my large living room, they looked a little sparse.  Obviously I need to do this more often to get a feel for the scale and how much I need.  This was the perfect time of year buy these decorating supplies; all the Halloween papers are out to include plenty of tattered black colors and tombstones. (Hee-hee!)

I made these large rosettes out of two pieces of 12×12 pattern paper each. They are about 12″ tall. The numbers inside (cut with the Silhouette) are about 7″ tall.

Here’s my cute banner:

I spread black tulle across my ceiling with bows in the corners. Did you know you can find several colors of this in the wedding section of both JoAnns and Michael’s for only $2.99? This was a single roll of 25 yards. (It was just barely enough for this room.)

And here’s a closeup of embossed letters using my newest Cuttlebug embossing folder. It’s called “Seeing Spots” and I love it! The pennants and letters were cut out with the Silhouette. After embossing the letters I ran a black inkpad across some of the raised dots for definition.

  • Nicely done, Kelly! Hubs and I both had OTH parties given for us, and it was so much fun! I'm glad your sister enjoyed it – what a nice sis you are!

  • Thanks for the party! I LOVED it, and the decorations were done with your usual flare. That's one of the best birthday surprises I've had in a long time.

  • Thanks! Now I'll take these decorations and pack them away to be brought out for all the rest of the family's 40-year milestones. My husband is next, but it's still over a year away. 🙂

  • Love the decorations, wish I lived closer to take your classes, thank you for the inspiration and sharing. Hugs, Lori m
