Gratitude Tree

I have a confession to make. We’ve had our Christmas lights up (and lit most nights) since the 15th of November, and even have our Christmas tree up and decorated in our living room. My husband has been playing Christmas music since the day after Halloween.

But just so you don’t think we’re one of those people skipping from one gimme-gimme holiday to the next gimme-gimme holiday, and just ignoring Thanksgiving, I want to show you this project we made.

I bought this all-season tree by Doodlebug Design, cut out a bunch of leaf and nut shapes with my Silhouette Cameo, and gave 5 to each member of our family. On the back of each leaf we put our name and something we’re grateful for. Then we hung them from the tree.

Cute, huh? The kids enjoyed this for a family-night activity, and it’s been fun to look around the tree and read what the kids (and we parents) have written on our leaf ornaments.

I decorated the base with Michael’s Recollections pattern paper. 2/3 of a sheet of 12×12″ paper covered the whole thing. Then I added my sentiment with the font Lobster Two, also cut with my Silhouette.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I hope you spend a little time this weekend thinking about the things you’re grateful for. I honestly believe that having an “attitude of gratitude” will make your life happier.

  • Clever. I like how you got the family involved. It will mean even more to them as they look at the tree throughout the season.

  • Very clever. In the past I've cut out a bunch of leaves to have my Thanksgiving guests and family write what they are thankful for on but never though of hanging them on a tree.

I used to enter at the end of the day what I was thankful for in a journal. I'm making for next year a new journal for myself and one for my sister as a Christmas gift.

    Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

  • This is really cute Kelly! What a fabulous idea. I have used a bare branch in the past to decorate for different holidays and I think it is time to bring it out again, this time with autumn leaves and words of blessings. Thanks for the inspiration!
