Is it a Bird? Is it a Plane?

I got short notice for a birthday party a few days ago for my little daughter to attend.  I had no time during the day to drag all the kids with me to the store to buy a gift, but I did end up with 20 minutes of time before the party to make a card with money attached.

The party was for a 7-year old boy, so I decided to use this free shape from Silhouette a few weeks back and make him a paper airplane. I chose a heavy one-sided pattern paper and cut it twice, once as a mirror image so I could glue the pieces back-to-back.

I tied on some money and stuck a tiny tag on it with repositionable adhesive, so this little boy can decide if it’s a card or a toy. Gotta love the Cameo for quick gifts!

By the way, my husband and kids were impressed with this little plane, so I’ll be making it again!  According to my daughter, the birthday boy “didn’t like it, he loved it!”
The conversation went:
“Does it fly?” (said in an awed voice)
“Yeah, it’s a plane.” (said in a tone as if he should know better and shouldn’t even have to ask)
I hope it did fly for him a little, because I wasn’t willing to test the only model I had.  🙂

  • Fab quick make, Kelly. I can assure you he will have thrown it into the air! Wouldn't have been able to resist!

    • Thanks, Tine! I made one for my youngest son this afternoon and he's been having a great time with it. It doesn't fly straight, but it flies enough for him to think it's pretty great. Mostly he just holds it while he runs with it, making airplane noises.

  • What a clever idea! Wish I had thought of something like this the other day when my 9yo grandson needed a quick bday gift for a friend and his mom was gone–we ended up spending a fortune at the bookstore. I will be remembering your idea! 🙂 TFS!
