Bennit the Bunny Cards

Some of you may remember Bennit the Bunny from this post, and as I was searching for uplifting card ideas for Card Care Connection, I remembered that he’s the most cheerful little character I could ever find!

Last time I used the print & cut file by Tangle’s Treasures, but this time I wanted to make him all with paper piecing.  The Silhouette Adhesive-Backed Cardstock was perfect for all these little pieces of Bennit!  I find this cardstock cuts quite nicely with my blade set on 2 (yellow cap for older style blades), speed 3-5, and thickness 30.  I use my cutting mat to maximize my cutting area, but since it has a backing liner you don’t have to use a mat.  The adhesive is already on there, so once it’s cut you don’t have to mess with glue on the tiny little pieces.  The brown pieces are regular textured cardstock by American Crafts, but all the other colors on Bennit are cut from the adhesive-backed cardstock.

For some of the bunnies I inked the edges of most of the pieces, and some I didn’t. I think I like the ones with the inked edges better. The majority of papers on these cards are from scraps; it was fun to go through my stash and use whatever I could. (Some of these scraps I’ve had for years.)

The labels on the above and below cards have a sketched sentiment. I used a black gel pen in my Chomas Creations adjustable holder to sketch the words, then cut the label shape with the blade. These labels are also cut from the adhesive-backed cardstock.  (See the bottom of this post for the free cutting file I made of the label below.)

Here’s one more close-up look at the paper piecing for Bennit the Bunny.

    • I just consider paper piecing as creating a design out of several layers of paper. This bunny, as provided by Tangle's Treasures when purchased, has several parts to layer and piece together.

There's a background layer to support everything else, then arms, tummy, duck in 3 of its own pieces, pink ears, pink accents, a black layer behind the face, and the face itself. When they are all put in place and layered together, it adds a lot of depth and texture.

Some people do paper piecing by cutting or tearing the pieces out of different papers, but cutting machine files and cutting machines like the Cameo do all the work, except the gluing, for you. I hope that explains it for you, Tina!

  • Those are all adorable cards. I would see a card and think "I like that" then I would scroll down and there would be another card and that would become my favorite until I scrolled down and there was another card. Great job on the cards. They definitely are cheerful.

    • Thanks, Myoriah! I'm glad they're all good enough to become favorites. Bennit the Bunny still has two more poses in the set I bought that I'll have to try out.

  • I just found your blog, and I am glad I did.
I will be a frequently visitor, I guess.
I loaded some files. They all look great.
    Thank you for sharing.
    Greetje.
