Card Organizer

I’ve made a New Year’s Resolution to do better at sending out cards.  I love making cards, but the last couple of years I’ve usually run out of time or made other excuses not to get out birthday cards for everyone on my list.  But hopefully this project will help me improve on getting cards out if I put in a little effort to make cards ahead of time.

I got this original idea from a fellow student a while back during a Jessica Sprague card-making class.  I created this template from scratch so you can print it on white (or any color) letter-size cardstock.  (Click here to download.)

1. Print on one side of letter-size cardstock, then trim off 1/2″ on right edge, so the final dimension of each page will be 8″ x 11″.  You only need to print on one side for each page.
2. Score a line 3″ from the bottom so the portion with all the numbered lines will be 8″ and the pocket when folded on the score line will be 3″.
3. Fold the short flap under to create a pocket on the back side of the numbered page.
4. Do the first three steps for all 12 pages.
5. Put your pages in order (and double check!) so the months on facing pages match.
6. Use any desired binding system to punch holes on the right side of the numbered pages and bind together.  I used a Cinch tool.  (There is no front or back cover.)
7.  After binding, add some adhesive to the outside edge of each pocket to seal that edge.
8. Fill in your card-worthy dates and put cards in the pockets so they’re ready to go!

Note:  This card organizer uses letter-size paper for simplicity, but you could use longer paper to increase the depth of the pocket.  It also has reminders for the U.S. holidays of Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and Grandparents’ Day.  If you’re outside of the U.S. and have Microsoft Publisher, I can send you the Publisher document to manipulate for your own paper size and holidays.  Just send me an email if you want the Publisher file instead of the PDF (see the About Me tab under my blog header).

  • You and I were in that same class before there was a Silhouette Plus, LOL! I remember how popular this was, and it came from another class member rather than the class materials. I have the one I made, but it is torn because I used stndard printer paper. You did a nice job on this project,as you always do.

  • Kelly, thanks for this great file…fabulous design and idea. Why is it that card makers don't send cards, I am the world's worse. I am going to try to do better in the future.

  • I'm so glad I'm not the only one that has this problem! 🙂 Thank you for sharing this file… I'm going to make it work for me this year!!!

  • Wonderful idea and maybe if I had something like that I wouldn't forget my grandchildren's birthdays and be scrambling at the last minute to make them a card. Thanks for sharing this idea.

  • Fantastic idea – I used to be so good about getting homemade cards out but last year I really fell down on the job. This organizer will really help – now I just need to find the time to make it and the cards! LOL!

  • Hi Kelly

Great project – I really am desperate for something like this – I'm useless at getting things out on time… I smiled at your NY resolution because this has genuinely been mine for the last decade – I've usually failed in the first week because I have family whose birthdays are on 4th Jan!!! (Mother and daughter no less)!

I am in the UK, so if you would be so kind, I would love the publisher version of the file, as Mothers Day is always in March in the UK – around the time of almost 10 birthdays in the same couple of weeks! I'll email you as requested, but wanted to thank you here for the offer of the file – especially as I was just happy to read that you'd done a great project!

    Best wishes

  • Thank you so much for sharing this! I am always making cards but never sending them out! Most of the time they get donated or put in boxed sets for gifts because I never am organized enough to send them out! I have tried to figure a way out on my own to get more organized with this, but haven't been able to change my ways! Hopefully your file will make a difference! Thank you!!! 🙂
