3D Cake Card

I love making cards and I love making 3D paper crafts, so this next project really appealed to me.  Cecelia of Crafting Creatures asked me to try out her new cutting files for 3D cake cards, and I love them!  She’s got her own great ideas and sample cards on her blog post here, and you can purchase the cutting files from her site here.

I needed a fast birthday card for my niece, and this was perfect.  The “happy birthday” background is just a printed transparency from my stash and the purple polka-dots are strips cut from a WeRMemory Keepers washi sheet.  The cake pieces are cut from white cardstock, the purple stand and letter are cut from lightweight purple paper, and I just added a little purple glitter glue to the birthday girl’s initial.  I used a combination of 1/2″ Scrappy Tape and Scotch Quick-Dry Adhesive to hold it all together.

The files you get from Crafting Creatures include all the cake pieces and stand, plus several variations of cake decorations and background pieces.  It also includes a great window box to hold this extra-dimensional card.  Several file types are included so you can cut it with any digital cutter. The instructions are clear and the files are well made.

I especially love the variety you can get with this card set. You can change the number of cake layers and the decorations to cover a wide range of celebrations. I love files that lend themselves well to multiple occasions, and this set definitely does that. I’ll be making more for sure!
