Card Set for Mother’s Day

card-full-set

A great gift for Mother’s Day or for any friend is a set of cards ready for them to send. For this project I made a set of 6 coordinating cards (2 of each kind) in a folio box. I shared this folio box Silhouette cutting file originally on my post Card Holder Freebie, but I’ve revised this file to include decorative panels you can cut from pattern paper and/or emboss. Here is my updated folio box with decorative panels. It fits standard A2 cards and envelopes. (Download here.)

The folio box base comes in two parts so you can cut it from a single piece of 12×12 paper or cut the two halves from two pieces of letter-size paper.  Assemble side 1 first, then glue all the tab pieces of side 2 inside of side 1 so all the edges look clean and tidy inside and out.  You can put the decorative panels on before or after you put the base together, but I stuck the decorative brads on first, then glued the panels to the flat base pieces, then assembled the base pieces.

This birthday card was inspired by a Maile Belles card I found somewhere on Pinterest, but I can’t find it again!  (I should have actually pinned it, eh?)  Many of her cards are white with a little “peekaboo” area that appeals to me.

You can download all of these card templates I made in Silhouette Studio here.
1– Print & cut the “birthday wishes” piece, or stamp a favorite sentiment on white paper cut to 5.5” x 3 3/8”.
2– Cut pink My Mind’s Eye Collectable paper to 5.5”x4.25”. Glue to card base of 5.5”x8.5” folded in half.
3– Cut and ink edges of five flags. Adhere to back of white sentiment rectangle.
4– Add five decorative brads or other circles to upper right quadrant of white sentiment rectangle. Attach to pink card front with 3D foam adhesive, aligning the right edge.

This arrow card was very much inspired by Nicole Nowosad’s card on the Jillibean Soup blog. I don’t often copy a card so closely, but her design was pretty much perfect. Again, if you want the Silhouette Studio cutting files I designed for these cards, here is the link to download them.

And finally, for my third card style I chose a simple window card that was inspired by many different cards I’ve seen.  I popped the butterfly out of the circular “window” and also used more 3D foam adhesive to pop the decorative paper off the card base.  I used a pink glitter Silhouette Sketch pen to write the sentiment on the little ticket.  This is my favorite Aunt Jana Sketch font, but I added the hearts for a little extra fun.

If you look very closely, you can see most of the cards have a little variation between the matching two. I love these beautiful Collectable papers from My Mind’s Eye.  And the coordinating brads.  So pretty!  One last thing…in your full card set tucked into the folio box, don’t forget to include enough envelopes for the cards you’ve made.

  • Thank you so much for this idea and the files! I'm just learning, so this helps so much. I love this idea as a Mother's Day present! I'm a little scared of cutting that thank you sentiment, but love it.

I have a question about the window card. Does the opening go clear through to the inside of the card or just through the front piece attached to the card, if that makes sense?

    Anyway, thanks again!!!

  • Kelly, this set is just pure, sweet eye candy! Impeccable craftsmanship as always, you do the nicest work! The papers are so pretty and spring-like, and so perfect for Mother's Day. What a treat for your recipient!

  • I thought I left a comment earlier, but don't see it, but I said Thanks so much for this!! I love the set and want to use the idea for Mother's Day. I'm a newbie, so it really helps to have the idea, cut files and list of supplies.

I'm a bit worried about cutting that thank you file, but may give it a try. Also, on the cut out window, is it cut out through to the inside of the card, or only through the first layer? thanks again!!

    • Jeanette, I'm glad you are willing to try these. The window is cut out only from the smaller piece that is lifted off the card front with 3d foam adhesive. When you open the cut files you'll need to spread everything apart and only put the piece on your cutting area that you want to cut at the time.

I didn't include the "thank you" sentiment in my freebies because I purchased that one, but I'm sure there are plenty of good ones you can use on the Silhouette store.

    • Thanks Kelly! I saw where you got the Thank You in your list of supplies, so I will probably get that one. It seems reasonable for all of the words you get with it. I'm just hoping that my silhouette can cut it OK. 🙂 (I think I need a new mat). Also, thanks for letting me know about the paper size. I'm going to pick up some tomorrow. Have a Happy Easter!

  • Kelly, THANK YOU so much for these cutting files. They are so gorgeous. You are so talented and creative. Since I found your blog, I've been learning a lot 🙂

  • Thanks Kelly for your generosity in supplying the files as well as all the clear instructions. It is a great project which I plan to use for a couple of friends. Hilary

  • Thank you for sharing the files and the directions : } As a cameo newbie (or toddler since I've had my cameo since December?) I love seeing the different projects I could possibly do.

  • Absolutely stunning cards and I know that they will be well received. Thanks for sharing the cutting files and sharing your talent. Have a Blessed Easter!

  • Oh My! What a beautiful idea. Of course, I've pinned because these are so neat. A complete set of cards with a unique holder. Thanks so much. I love to give cardsets as gifts and my friends and family appreciate it, so I'm always looking for new ideas.

  • Clever idea.

Love your blog, I had to subscribe today.

    Keep up the great work.

    Cannot wait to see more.

    Happy thoughts,

  • lovely cards and a great gift. Is the file available to download in another format though? I cannot open .studio files?

    • I designed these to use with the Silhouette machines and haven't converted them to other formats. Were you hoping for an SVG file or a PDF?

  • What a gorgeous set! I love everything about it! I really like the shape of the card holder, not straight lines, but flowing ones. Thanks for the fabulous inspiration!

    • I was wondering if you have the ability to convert these files from the .studio format to svg. I use SCAL2 with my Cricut expression (oh how I wish I had a Cameo!) and don't have any software that I can convert it in. Thanks every so much for your generosity!

  • I just saw the Thank You card posted on Pinterest and fell in love with design-love the chevrons.
Thank you so much for sharing the files.

  • Thank you for the dl and your creativity. Definitly going to make this for my mom in law. Brownie points. Yeppie She will love this. So happy
