When Projects Go Bad…

Dun. Dun. Dun…

You may have seen this recent project where I used Silhouette tattoo paper to decorate a candle.

Well, for the sake of experimentation and frugality, I also tried the Silhouette clear sticker paper on an identical candle.  Pretty, right?

Not so fast.  In case you were wondering, sticker paper does not stick well to a wax candle.  Little by little, the sticker pulls away from the candle and looks more like this within a day or so.

I’m constantly pressing it back on as I walk past it throughout the day.  It may have worked better if I had the ends overlapping, but even that doesn’t look so nice because it’s pretty thick.  I’ll be “sticking” with the tattoo paper for crisp, clean, print & cut images for my candles from now on.

  • It looks like the comment I left yesterday got sent out into cyberspace. A solution to your sticker paper dilemma is to use straight pins to secure the paper to the candle. You'll be doing this on the back side, so no one will be the wiser as long as you place your candle strategically where the back side won't show!

    • Thanks for the clever suggestion, Ginny. In the end I put a piece of tape on the back to attach the two ends and hold it for another week or so, but I certainly don't want anyone looking at this one closely! 🙂

  • What???
    You're human???
    Who knew. LOLOL
    Thanks for the warning.
What we can learn from mistakes, can be as helpful as the tips.
I am proud of you for showing us.
You could of did this post as "A friend of mine tried…." But you didn't
    Yeah you

    • Thanks, Nance! 🙂 Yeah, some of my experimentation turns out less than ideal. If it's helpful to avoid mistakes and expense, I'm willing to share the mistakes. You probably don't want to hear about things like me cutting holes in my mat, etc. 🙂
