Thank You Card with Two-Toned Shapes

Thank You Card with Two-Toned Shapes by Kelly Wayment

I created this two-toned thank you card after I saw this love-you card on Pinterest.  She used punches and scissors, but I used the fancy knife tool in Silhouette Studio (with washi as one layer) to change it up a bit.

I used my knife tool in Silhouette Studio Designer Edition to create these two-toned butterflies. Once I had a set of four butterflies sized to my liking, I made duplicates of the butterflies and used my decorative knife edge to cut off a portion of each.

  • Choose the Knife Tool.
  • Select Treat unfilled shapes as = Solid.
  • Uncheck Auto Apply.
  • Select a knife style (I chose Triangular).
  • Drag the knife across your shape.
  • Adjust the size and position of the knife as desired. Drag the grey double-arrow slider and/or the red dot near the white dot on one end to make the width and height of the knife peaks and valleys as large or as small as you want.
  • Click on Apply Selected Knife button.
  • Now you can drag away and delete the part you won’t be using, and the partial shape is ready to be cut.
  • Repeat with the duplicates of the remaining butterflies, using random angles of slices. Experiment with the different knife edges; it’s fun!

(If you don’t have the Designer Edition, you can still make slices with your basic straight knife tool.)

You could cut this with two coordinating pieces of pattern paper (one full butterfly and one partial butterfly), but I chose to use adhesive washi sheets on top of textured cardstock and subtle pattern papers. The thank-you sentiment was cut from black adhesive cardstock.
