School Tissue Box
Are you looking for a simple kids craft? How about cutting out some chipboard shapes, which your child can then wrap with twine or yarn? We added these chipboard shapes to a school tissue box for each child.
I wanted to let my kids help decorate their teachers’ tissue boxes this year, so I cut some basic school shapes out of Silhouette chipboard and gave them some twine to wrap around the shapes. Once I attached the starting point with tape on the back of the shape, even my kindergartener could do it himself!
And of course, we couldn’t stop there. I cut out several critters and he wrapped them all, some with thicker yarn instead of twine.
The frog was his favorite. He asked me to leave the long string in place so he could make it jump around. I love it when my Silhouette CAMEO can help me encourage his imaginative play!
I do have older kids, too, so they were happy to help decorate their tissue boxes by wrapping their own chipboard shapes. I think you can tell which shapes were done by the kindergartner and which were done by the 6th grader. But they all enjoyed adding their own crafty skills to the finished boxes!
Hint: Simple shapes work best for this technique; we tried wrapping some welded words but it took a long time. On curved shapes like the apple, a little extra tape or adhesive on the back to tack it down near the curved edges is helpful.
Let your child or grandchild pick out some interesting shapes from your Studio library or the Silhouette online store, and give this a try!
Happy crafting!
