Fabric Ink Wreath

Fabric Ink Wreath by Kelly Wayment for Silhouette

It’s Christmas Eve, and I’ve got one more project to share with you before the big day. This wreath is one of the free designs given away for the 12 Days of Christmas. I chose to apply it with fabric ink to a 10” artist canvas.

For the design, I decided not to use the offset of the wreath, but then I created my own offset of the berries to bulk them up a bit. The look of simple holly leaves and bold berries was much more appealing to me. One of the joys of the Silhouette Studio software is being able to manipulate any design.

I used a variety of fabric inks and mixed them to create custom colors. I used Silhouette’s thick stencil material cut with a chevron pattern to apply the grey fabric ink. Once that ink was dry (and the stencil removed), I used a piece of stencil vinyl for the holly leaves with some green fabric ink. I removed that stencil and let it dry again, then added the final layer of magenta berries with another piece of stencil vinyl.

I wasn’t thrilled with the canvas I chose, because the stencil material and stencil vinyl wouldn’t stick very well to it. The lines are not clean and crisp like I usually get with other fabrics, but it’s fine for this project.

Once it was completely dry, I simply hand stitched a bow in place to give it a pretty accent. This was quite a fast project, especially when I used my hair dryer to help speed the drying process between layers. 😉
