Life is Like a Camera

Life is Like a Camera - Flocked Heat Transfer by Kelly Wayment for Silhouette

I have wanted to use this beautiful saying ever since I first saw it in the Silhouette design store.  I made it as a gift to my sister who has had a rough time the past few years, and who also happens to be an avid photographer.  To give it real impact—I made it big, I made it in multiple colors, and I made it with a luxurious texture by using flocked heat transfer material.

The heat-transfer roll was long enough that I fed it directly into my CAMEO and held it in place with the vinyl roll feeder.  The roll feeder just snaps into the legs of your machine (it’s adjustable for the different Silhouette models) so the roll stays stable and straight.

This was a great chance to use some of the many colors of flocked heat transfer material.  I chose faded blue, grey, and black.  Because I was using multiple colors and because it was so big, I made a paper template for help lining up the words, then used vinyl transfer tape to pick up the pieces all at the same time and transfer it to my fabric-covered art board before ironing.

The final piece is 16” x 20”.  I wish you could feel the fuzzy words on this fabric background!

For a more detailed tutorial on making such a large project with multiple colors, you can read my tutorial: Multi-Color Heat Transfer Tutorial. The finished size is 16″ x 20″.
