Secret Sister | Nail Polish Box

Here’s the third and final secret sister gift for Girls Camp this year. Each girl is supposed to receive her favorite treat, drink, and nail polish. This is how we are presenting the nail polish.  You can see the other secret sister gifts for 2015 here:

I used this slide-lock box and reduced it quite significantly to get it to fit the nail polish. I find it helpful when resizing a 3D box in Silhouette Studio to draw a reference rectangle for the object to be enclosed. In this case, it was 1.25″ wide by 3.25″ tall to represent the nail polish bottle. I resized the 3D box to match one of the sides to be just slightly larger than my reference rectangle. TIP: Always use a corner handle to resize a 3D design–never stretch side handles or it won’t fit together properly when you try to assemble it.

Be sure to move the reference rectangle off the cutting area when you are ready to cut the box. TIP: I also cut most 3D boxes out of cheap throw-away paper as a test design to be sure it will actually turn out to be the size I expect, before I commit my nice paper to the project.

As you can see in the screen shot above, I also cut out the recipient’s name from one side of the box to personalize it. I backed it with clear acetate when assembling the box.

This box has a fun flower accent that comes with it. For the slider piece (not included with the cut file), I cut and folded a piece of kraft paper slightly wider than the width of the nail polish box with room for the flower. Finally, I added a touch of blue nail polish to add custom color to a plain white mini brad.

I hope you’ve enjoyed these three secret sister gifts for Girls Camp this year. It was fun to spend a little extra time on individual gifts that didn’t have to be mass produced, although all of these are simple enough to make multiples if necessary.
