Science Project à la Silhouette

My 7th grade son has his first-term science project due this week. He had a few options to choose from and decided it would be fun to make a children’s book on lab safety. With a little nudge from his mom, he agreed it would be great to create it as an interactive book.  Enter the Silhouette (mwah hah hah). 

I opened up Silhouette Studio for him, showed him how to draw a line and then make an offset of the line to serve as a slot, briefly showed him how to make a consistent square and enter text… and this is what he came up with. We turned each page into a print & cut so he would have room to illustrate it and mount it onto the book base with the moving mechanics hidden.

We do a lot of homework these days; good thing there are fun projects to break it up. We can almost always find a way to have the Silhouette help us out. Now if I can figure out how to use it to make my daughter’s conquistador costume for her oral report on Monday…
