Owl Party

Owl Party with the SilhouetteI don’t do big parties. But I do love my Silhouette CAMEO, so when I do a party it definitely involves my Silhouette. My daughter loves owls, so for her last birthday party we had an owl party theme.

Invitations

First, I made cute owl invitations with some Silhouette cut files and fonts. Lori Whitlock has created these adorable owls, which I’ve used multiple times. I enlarged the eyeball pieces of this cut file before cutting them, just to increase the cuteness factor. The layered pieces of the owl are cut from different colors of adhesive cardstock (sticky on the back), which makes multiple assembly really quick & easy for a stack of invitations like this.

I cut the “Whooo’s Invited” sentiment out of black adhesive cardstock, after designing it with SW Par-tay Time font. I used some tricks found in this post about script fonts to thicken the letters and weld them before cutting.

I frequently use the following trick for lining up my letters so they are straight and evenly spaced on the card or page I’m applying them to. If I use adhesive cardstock, I cut exactly the same text out of a piece of scrap cardstock to use as a template. Those inner cutout letters of the scrap cardstock can be thrown away, and the remaining template piece can be positioned exactly where I want to place the letters.

Sometimes it’s a little tricky to press the text onto the card surface and then pull away just the scrap cardstock template, but I really like the way it helps me get my alignment and spacing just right.

Crafts

Because I do simple parties for the kids, we basically do some games, a craft, food, and gifts. That’s about it. In keeping with the owl party theme, I had the kids make their own owl masks. I own a lot of adhesive cardstock, so I cut out a variety of pieces from this mask design in different colors. I cut the base of the masks from regular cardstock, but all the other pieces acted like stickers.

The girls all got to pick and choose the pieces they wanted to use.

Food

My daughter’s best friend is allergic to gluten and corn, so dessert for this party was a bit tricky. We decided to do an ice cream sundae bar with plain vanilla ice cream and lots of toppings. I couldn’t find any candy to avoid those allergies, but we did have plenty of fruit toppings.

I continued with the owl theme by making sticker labels for the toppings. I used the print & cut feature of my Silhouette CAMEO to make these labels on sticker paper, and added some more owls as an accent.
