Flower Cards

As I was busy trying to complete wreaths for my moms last weekend for Mother’s Day, I realized Sunday afternoon there was no way that was going to happen.  So I had to switch gears and make some very quick cards, but since they were for my mothers who value my crafting more than most, I couldn’t make it look like they were just thrown together.

This is the card I made for my mother-in-law, which was hand delivered.

I used the rolled rose shape again from Silhouette, but I reduced it a lot and cut it from fairly lightweight pattern paper. These were resized to 3″ each before cutting, so when rolled up they are close to 1″. The textured paper is cardstock rolled through my Cuttlebug “Seeing Spots” embossing folder and rubbed with a light brown chalk inkpad.

I needed to mail my mom’s card, so I went back to my favorite ruffled flower shape that has been sadly neglected since I’ve been playing with lots of other flowers.  I also was entering a card challenge in the Silhouette Plus forum for over-the-top bling, so this is what I came up with.  (I knew my mom could handle all this glitter; not everyone could.)

I used a Stampin’ Up! edge punch for the pink strip because this glitter paper is too hard on the Silhouette machines and blades.  For the flower, I only used the center piece of the ruffled flower shape and cut it in about 3 sizes for each flower.  I hand cut the small paper strips and drew accent lines with a Stardust Gelly Roll pen for a little extra shimmer.  Instead of rhinestones for the flower centers, I used flat brads and stuck on flat imitation rhinestone stickers.
