Halloween Block

Halloween Block

Are you ready for Halloween?  I had the chance to work with Echo Park’s Arsenic and Lace collection, which has beautiful Halloween colors.  This 7” black-painted block has been sitting around my craft room waiting for the perfect project, and this Halloween block was it.

I placed one of the Echo Park element stickers in the center of the painted block, applied a layer of Mod Podge on top, then used double-sided adhesive and black glitter to give a subtle, sparkly accent in the corners.  I finished it off with some miniature roses in the corners, cut with my CAMEO from more of the Arsenic and Lace collection.

I really like adding glitter designs to wooden blocks.  Vinyl is fun, but the glitter adds a lot more pizzazz.  Double-sided adhesive is perfect for this!

I usually cut my double-sided adhesive with the white side against the Silhouette mat.  I set my blade so it doesn’t cut completely through, but it always cuts through the top yellow paper backing and the adhesive itself.  This way, I am able to weed away the excess yellow paper and adhesive, which leaves just my design on the white backing.

At this point I am able to use transfer tape to lift the top yellow layer and the adhesive away from the white backing and apply it to my block.

Then I peel away the yellow layer (which should actually come up with the transfer tape), sprinkle glitter on the exposed adhesive, brush away the excess glitter, and I’m done!  I also set the glitter with a clear spray sealer.

Finally, I used hot glue to add the miniature roses.  (I made them a lot smaller than the original design.)  The glittery webs are easier to see in person than in a photograph, but here are a couple more views to show the webs and spider.

You can use your Silhouette machine to add unique accents to just about any project, don’t you think?
