Harry Potter Secret Sister Treats for Girls Camp

As you may have seen in my previous post, our Girls Camp this year had a Harry Potter theme. I took that theme and ran with it to make my daughter’s and my niece’s secret sister gifts. Enter Pumpkin Juice, spell books, and Hedwig the Owl. These were some fun Harry Potter Secret Sister treats to make!

The girls were randomly assigned secret sisters. First they wrote down their favorite choice of drink, treat, and gum on a note card. Once those were all turned in, they each received a girl’s card as a secret sister for whom they would buy those gifts and bring to camp.

Nothing said we had to decorate the treats, but hey, I have a Silhouette CAMEO that I adore, so those treats were going to be decorated!

My daughter’s secret sister chose Orange Crush for her drink, so I thought it would be fun to call it Pumpkin Juice from the Harry Potter world. A little bit of browsing on Pinterest brought me to this set of free printable labels.

How to Trace, Print and Cut a JPG Label File

Printables are generally easy to trace in Silhouette Studio then print and cut with registration marks. This particular file came as a JPG with a variety of labels.

  1. Open the JPG file (I just dragged it from its open folder in Windows Explorer onto my Studio workpage).
  2. Use the Trace Window to:
    • Select a Trace Area (click and drag a selection area around the label you want)
    • Turn off High Pass Filter
    • Decrease Scale
    • Increase Threshold
    • Trace and Detach
  3. Drag the excess printable out of the workpage and delete if you’re done with it.
  4. Go to the Cut Settings Window, select the label you traced, and choose Cut or Cut Edge.
  5. Now turn on the registration marks and print and cut as usual.

Once you’ve printed and cut your label on white sticker paper, it’s easy to remove the soda label and stick this label on. (You can cover any line of adhesive or label residue on the bottle if you make your own sticker large enough.) These soda bottles are about 1.2 liters.

I found this Felix Felicis label online as well, and included it on my print & cut sticker sheet. We finished up my niece’s bottle the morning they left, so I barely had time to snap a quick picture after applying the sticker.

Spell Book

The next treat box is just to contain a simple pack of gum, but I’ve wanted to make this book box for a long time. I love 3D designs, and Snapdragon Snippets has some of my favorite files. The Book of Spells was perfect for this Harry Potter themed gift box.

I did make some tweaks here and there so I could use the skinny book from design #73619 and still use the book of spells embellishments from design #68133. I resized it all quite a bit smaller, left off some extra pieces, and left out the gift card insert. (It was just for a pack of gum, after all!) I drew my own rounded rectangle to match the narrower book cover.

I made two books so my daughter and my niece could both have this secret sister gift box. (But mostly because I loved making it so much!) Don’t you love the printable gold foil? You can print on it first or just cut it into intricate shapes. (And it’s already sticky on the back.)

You can see the book is quite small in my finished version. (About 5 in. tall x 3 in. wide x 3/4 in. thick.)

Hedwig the Owl Treat Box

With the soda labels and gum boxes out of the way, I needed one more treat box. This owl box was perfect, and I just made it all white for Hedwig. I dabbed a little ink on the white embellishments and used adhesive-backed cardstock for the eyes and beak.

I was running out of time at this point, so instead of a second owl for my niece’s treat box, I used some holographic cardstock as a shiny, magical-looking pillow box. You can see that box in the top photo of this post. (It’s holding a Rice Krispies Treat.)

There you have it! Some fun Harry Potter Secret Sister treats for Girls Camp. Thanks for visiting, and don’t forget to Pin this post to help out others looking for Harry Potter, Secret Sister, or Girls Camp ideas!
