Craft Along: Graduation Cake Topper
It’s been a while since I filmed a Craft Along class with Silhouette, and we thought a graduation theme would be fun! I made this cute graduation cake topper, and you can make it too!
Is graduation season hitting you this year like it’s hitting our family? We’ve got a high school graduate this month, so the past couple months have been full of planning and paperwork and FAFSA applications and college enrollment and everything else that hits in April and May!
Here’s the free video class, and you can find links to all the supplies and materials below.

Instructions:
Software –
1 Set up machine in Page Setup Panel:
- Machine = Cameo 5
- Cutting Mat = Electrostatic Mat
- Media size = Letter
- Show Cut Border
2 Open Graduation 2024 Design #470516
3 Rearrange pieces so numbers go across side to side
(I didn’t use “graduate” phrase)
4 Select all pieces and resize smaller so numbers are approximately 3” tall
5 Make copy of black background numbers
6 Set up to cut black: Arrange all black on cut area
7 Send Panel – Material = Cardstock (adjust to Blade 3 or 4, Force 30, Speed 4-5)
8 Load paper, ES mat, send to cut
9 Set up to cut gold: Arrange all gold numbers on cut area (move black)
10 Cut gold on ES mat with same settings
Assembly –
1 Use adhesive to attach gold numbers to black background
2 Flip upside down to expose backs of black numbers (important to flip tops towards you so these stay in correct order)
3 Small line of glue (1/2”) along tops of each number
4 Lay baker’s twine across glue strip with numbers evenly spaced
- Leave 4.5 – 5” extra twine on each end
- #4 should be a little closer than other numbers
5 Let glue dry briefly
6 Add adhesive to remainder of black numbers and lay corresponding black backs on top
7 Tie twine to each skewer and add wooden ball to top, if using
8 Stick into cake!
