Triskele Paper Orb

This triskele paper orb is a fun 3D paper craft that’s easy to make! Instead of the tedious measuring or tracing that most of these triskele globes require, you can purchase my design (D-1320600) in the Silhouette Design Store and simply cut it out. (This design will be available soon.)

Here are the steps.

Step One – Cut the design from cardstock or pattern paper. (Thicker paper, even a food box, works well.)

Step Two – Fold the curved sections along the score/perforation lines downward, to create indentations in each strip.

Step Three – Add glue to the end of one strip using the score line as a guide so glue does not go onto the main part of the strip.

Step Four – Flatten the indentations and wrap the strip around to glue the opposite end onto itself. Use the score line as a guide for placing the opposite end.

Step Five – Repeat with a second strip so you have two separate loops.

Step Six – Tuck one loop inside the other in a perpendicular fashion.

Step Seven – Tuck the ends of the remaining strip so the ends go through the openings of the inner loop.

Step Eight – Glue the final strip’s ends together with the score line as your guide, the same as with previous glue tabs.

Step Nine – Rotate the seams so they are all hidden inside and the curved sections are all evenly distributed on the outside.

Step Ten – Gently press the curved portions inward on all the strips.

Optional – Insert a knotted string before closing up the final curves if you want to hang your orb.

Additional notes:

  • This triskele orb file was made for a Silhouette machine, but I’m also providing an SVG option if you want to make this with other cutting machines. Each strip should measure 2 inches x 10.5 inches by default.
  • Resize smaller or larger as desired (be sure to resize them all at the same time).
  • This works better with heavy papers and less so with lightweight papers. I recommend a minimum 65 – 80 lb. cardstock.
  • Experiment with different pattern papers, or draw/paint your own designs on the cut-out strips before assembling.
