Home is Where….
I finally got around to putting vinyl on my wall after years of putting it on everything else. I’ve put Silhouette vinyl on doors, mailboxes, mirrors, jars, plastic containers, dishes, holiday ornaments, cards…you name it. But not on my walls, until a few days ago.
Sad to say, it did not go as well as I had hoped. The vinyl cut just fine, but it did not want to stick to my wall! I “pressed on” with all the burnishing and got all the lettering on there, but it didn’t feel very secure. By the next morning I was losing letters.
After talking to Silhouette Customer Support, I felt better. They graciously offered to replace my roll of vinyl and explained that the regular Silhouette vinyl works best on smooth surfaces and their premium vinyl was the better choice for textured walls. I had been under the impression that the premium vinyl was permanent and for outdoor use, but it is actually removable and suitable for walls even with its stronger adhesive. It should also survive outdoors for 2-3 years.
I’m showing this project anyways because I’ll probably replace it with stronger vinyl. This is a saying my mom had hanging up on a wooden plaque when I was growing up, and I had made some hearts to hang from this tree, so it was a good combination!

Beware of the "regular" silhouette vinyl — I have had nothing but trouble with it. Haven't tried their premium vinyl, but I usually get all of mine from expressionsvinyl.com – I've NEVER had a problem with the oracal they sell (which I've heard is actually what the Sil premium vinyl is). The few times I've used the regular silhouette vinyl (either on smooth or textured surfaces) I can't get it to stick to anything!!
That's so frustrating, Erin! I also understand that Silhouette premium vinyl is Oracal 631. I have actually had great success with the regular vinyl sticking to all sorts of things so I'm sure I'll be able to use all of mine, as long as I don't try it on walls again. 🙂
Stunning!!! You always make the prettiest things and your white tree with the hearts looks perfect next to the mirror and wall art. Hugs, Lori m
Thanks, Lori! I need to come visit your blog again and see what you've been up to lately.
I always loved that saying growing up.
I hope it works next time.
