Holiday Candle

I’m excited to show you this candle I made using the Silhouette temporary tattoo paper. It was originally featured on the Silhouette Blog, but now you can read all about it below.

I love candles during the holidays!  Kelly here to share this candle I decorated using Silhouette temporary tattoo paper.

I chose this beautiful Christmas Swirl shape in the online store and filled the pieces with different patterns and colors using the Fill Color and the Fill Pattern windows.  After arranging the pieces on the screen to my liking, I duplicated the whole design to the right and resized it all to fit a 5” x 9.375” rectangle, which I drew with my rectangle drawing tool.  This was the size I needed to wrap completely around my 6” tall pillar candle.  No overlap on the ends is best.

The tattoo paper has several steps to it, but the instructions on the package are easy to follow. Remember to mirror any words and to turn off all cut lines except the outer edge.

When I got to the step of actually applying the sticky design to my candle, I just wrapped it around my candle and carefully pressed a wet paper towel all around it to saturate the paper backing.  As the wet paper backing was removed, the tattoo paper was tacky at first, so I handled it gently as I pressed the design against the wax with my fingers and the wet paper towel (the design does not smear).  It had quite a few bubbles, but my hook tool was very handy in poking tiny holes that can’t be seen once the design sticks against the candle.

It would be hard to get a flawless design with absolutely no wrinkles or bubbles when using a large piece of tattoo paper like I did for this candle, but when it’s all dry those wrinkles are not very noticeable and so worth it for a fully-personalized candle!  It just adds to the handmade charm.  This candle is a flameless wax candle so I can light it up without burning the tattoo paper.
