For the Bride

I made a similar wedding gift a while ago, but didn’t get to go to see it opened. Last week I was able to give this gift at a bridal shower and the bride’s reaction was one that makes all handmade gifts worth it. I was visiting in the room with a neighbor when all of the sudden I heard a happy scream from the bride-to-be. I looked over and she was holding my frame I had made with etched glass and fuzzy vinyl. She looked at me with wide eyes and said, “That’s my new name!” It almost seemed like unbelief that I had done it on purpose, but of course it was just a reaction to seeing her new last name in print like that for the first time. Moments like that are what make personalized gifts so fun to give. I made something that made someone scream. How cool is that?

  • Love this gift!! Can you describe in detail how you made it? I'm new to the Silhouette Cameo world. I feel like there is so much I need to still learn.

    Thanks,
    Heidi

    • This is made with plain vinyl, etching cream, and fuzzy vinyl.

Simply take your glass out of the frame, cut the name in vinyl so it will fit within the frame opening (usually 7×9 for an 8×10 frame), "weed" and discard the letters, then use transfer tape to lift the vinyl "mask" off its backing and lay it onto the glass.

Rub it well along all the letter edges so it's a tight seal, then follow the manufacturer instructions for the etching cream to spread across the exposed glass at the letters, wait, rinse, remove and discard the vinyl, rinse again.

Once it's dry, cut fuzzy vinyl or regular vinyl for the "happily ever after" phrase, weed away the excess, and use transfer tape to apply it to the glass, slightly overlapping the etched name.

Place it in the frame and use the existing metal tabs, glaziers points, or hot glue to secure it in place.

Sorry I don't have time for a longer tutorial.
