Sketch-Pen Window Card

I made this card for a card challenge on the Silhouette Plus forum, then turned it into a class on using sketch pens for Silhouette users in my area.  I’m going to try this class again later because of a lack of interested parties this time around.

Here it is in a stepped-up version with colors.  I had to separate some of the embedded butterflies from their frame so they could be colored separately.

These were done completely with sketch pens and one letter each from two dingbat fonts: Butterflies by Typadelic, and Frames1font by Dingbat Crazy. The font for the sentiment is LHF Cosmic Cursive (one of my newest favorites).  Well, and pattern paper and white cardstock.  All of the cutting was done with my Cameo.

I think dingbat fonts are so much fun to use with sketch pens!  Last summer I also wrote a tutorial on using dingbat fonts to make embellishments, so go check it out if you’re interested.

I’m still teaching Silhouette Basics classes at Heartland Paper in Bountiful, Utah, but if you’re in the area I’d love to have you attend some of my “Silhouette Silly” monthly classes.  I’m just getting it up and running, but they should be a lot of fun and take your basic Silhouette Studio skills to a whole new level.  In March the class will be about the Modify tools (divide, weld, crop, subtract, etc.) and you’ll learn things like manipulating background designs into custom sizes, shapes, and decorations.  It will be held Thursday, March 29th at 7:00 p.m.  I’ll post more details later.

  • I am still in awe of this card. Thanks for entering it into the challenge. If I was in your area I would sign up in a heartbeat to take a class to learn how to create things like this.

I also would definitely take a class on using the modify tools. I am still stumbling around using those.

  • What a unique, beautiful card!!! 🙂 I wish I lived close enough to take your class! I got my Cameo for Christmas and I just took it out of the box 2 weeks ago when my sister-in-law gave me a quick demonstration.

    Thanks so much for sharing,

  • The loved the first version when I saw it, the color is so serene. Now the color version is so eye catching, I love them both. Your classes sound wonderful and I'm sure you have developed quite a following.

  • Kelly, this is stunning! Beautiful work. Wish i lived closer….Cali is a little too far to drive! So happy for you being able to teach these classes. They're lucky to have such an amazing teacher!
