Decorated Notebook Cover

decorated-diary

My daughter had a rough day last week and I knew a notebook would cheer her up, so we made this together.  I bought a lot of blank Hobby Lobby notebooks on clearance this past summer and made a Silhouette cutting file to match, ready to decorate any cover in a jiffy.

My daughter was able to choose the paper for the front and back covers, choose the font for the “My Diary” title, and choose the butterfly shape for extra decoration.  Then she helped me Mod Podge the paper onto the blank cover.  I cut out the butterfly and title with Silhouette double-sided adhesive and placed it on the cover, then she was able to pour the silver glitter on by herself.

She’s been carrying around her personalized diary ever since so she can write and draw to her heart’s content.  If only it was this easy to cure everyone’s disappointment!

Paper:  BoBunny
Font:  CAC Shishoni Brush
Silhouette Shape:  Butterfly #20364

  • Ok, so, when you covered the notebook with a file you had created, did you cut from the edge into each hole of the spiral so you could get it pressed on to the front or did you take it apart, which would seem almost impossible to do and then get it back together. What ever you done, it looks perfect. Well done,Kelly! Thanks for sharing. hugs, Patty http://rosetresuresblog.blogspot.com

  • Hi Kelly, my name is Dawn and good job on that book. I'm new to all this and really wanting to learn and I was wondering is there anyway you could email me @ rdnckbytch@outlook.com the file you made so I can try to cut and make it on my Silhouette. Please. Thank you.

    • This was a while ago, but I think I scanned the cover, then used the Trace function in Studio. I also used my Rounded Rectangle Drawing Tool (with a straight knife tool on one edge) to get a more clean and even design, using the scan or traced image as a reference. I drew and replicated circles to match the holes from the scan, then again used my knife tool to make slits to the edge. I can't remember if I used the traced design or the drawn design in the end, but I think it was the one I drew.
