Happy Pi Day!

O.K. I know 3.14 is past, but I didn’t have these pictures ready to post until now.  We had a fantastic neighborhood party to celebrate Pi Day (March 14 = 3/14 on the calendar), and everyone got to bring a pie for dessert.  My husband made a delicious raspberry chiffon pie from scratch, and I made the cute tag.  Fair trade, right?  😉

I used my Silhouette Cameo’s print & cut feature for the round tag in the middle.  I love the text-to-path tool in Silhouette Studio so I could write the numerical value of pi in a circle around the border (or as much as I could fit, anyway).  I sketched white dotted lines around the tag with my favorite white uni-ball Signo gel pen, and cut the scalloped circle from pink Silhouette adhesive cardstock.  I cut two of everything so I could just sandwich the skewer in between the adhesive cardstock.

The neighborhood pi party was a great success!  We had homemade chicken pot pies for dinner (the kids got pizza pie if they wanted it) and a delicious variety of pies for dessert.  Our pie was one of the first to get eaten–it was all but gone before they even officially opened up the dessert section, due to some anxious folks who didn’t wait for the go-ahead.  We also had a pie-eating contest and funny pi-related games.

I’m looking forward to next year when we will reach the moment of 3/14/15 at 9:26:53.

    • I only started hearing about it a few years ago myself. It started out as a math-geek holiday, but has been gaining in popularity around here. It's definitely a fun one to celebrate!

  • love your pie topper, lol, brings a whole new meaning to "any reason for a party", sounds like a PI time was had by all, hugs

  • So I am one of those math-geek types 🙂 When I get some spare time I would love to get some $-store clear dessert plates and etch a variety of Pi/pie things on them. I think they would make a great gift for my daughter's HS geometry teacher who just got married on Pi-day.
