Teacher Appreciation Card
As the school year comes to a close, I wanted to give my kids’ teachers each a little something to say thanks for the time they’ve put into my children’s education this year.
This adorable desk card cutting file is in the Silhouette online store, and designer Lori Whitlock has included all of the details to make this card look amazing with very little effort. It is so classy but is so simple, and it was just as easy to make four as it was to make one, so all of their teachers got one.
I was able to cut four sets of desks and drawers from a single 12×12″ piece of brown paper, cut with my Cameo. I inked the edges of the drawers for definition and used small silver brads for the drawer pulls. The flower vase is cut from Silhouette corrugated paper for extra texture, and the flower and stem are cut from adhesive-backed cardstock. The silver paper for the laptop computer is printable silver foil, also available from Silhouette. I added just a bit more texture to the “wall” by printing a pattern on printable cotton canvas.
I think the computer may be my favorite detail. I used a white gel pen to sketch the sentiment on the computer screen using Sketch Serif font. My white sketch pens don’t always give the crisp heavy white I’m looking for, so I used a Uniball Signo gel pen in a Chomas Creations adjustable marker holder in my Cameo. The foil paper gives the laptop such a great look, too.
As I mentioned, it was just as easy to make four cards as it was to make one, so that’s what I did. The kids had room to write a little note and sign the pattern paper on the “floor” in front of the desk. Then the whole card folded up nicely to be tucked into a standard A2 (invitation size) envelope. I heard all of the teachers really loved their cards.
