Umbrella Mobile

Umbrella Mobile by Kelly Wayment for Silhouette

Here’s a cute fabric and paper mobile I created to celebrate spring! This is my 51st and final project for the Silhouette America design team. After two terms, I’m taking a break. (But you’ll still find plenty of Silhouette inspiration and instruction here on my blog.)

Find the full step-by-step tutorial HERE.

Here’s the shorter “highlights” version as posted originally on the Silhouette Blog.

Hello, my Silhouette friends! Kelly here, to share my 51st and final project as a member of the Silhouette Design Team. For this project, I used my CAMEO to make a fun mobile to celebrate spring.  (It would also make a great gender-neutral baby gift.)

I covered this umbrella shape (enlarged to the max on my 12” mat) with pretty striped fabric to give it a nice texture but remain stiff. I cut the umbrella once out of pattern paper, then attached a 12” square of sewable fabric interfacing to a 12” square of cotton fabric and cut the umbrella shape once more from the fabric. Then it was easy to iron the fabric directly to the identical paper base with the interfacing acting as the adhesive.

I chose some fun 3D clouds and butterflies, then made my own 3d raindrops by cutting a symmetrical drop in triplicate and putting the three folded pieces together. I attached them along a 14” piece of string every 3” with a glue gun.  The strands are just hot-glued in place on the underside of the umbrella.

Here are some more detail shots.

I will miss being a part of the design team, but I’m excited to see what the new team will share with us over the next year. The past 18 months have been a very rewarding experience with this community, and I love Silhouette America and my CAMEO machine more than ever!

Happy Spring!
