Silhouette 2018 New Products

Silhouette Summit - New Products 2018

Are you ready to hear about the new products Silhouette is releasing this year? I recently attended Silhouette Summit in Hawaii and got the 4-1-1 on the latest and greatest. Make sure you read to the end to collect my freebie. 🙂

I got to help behind the scenes a little this year with make & take pineapple bookmarks in the demo room, so I had plenty of time to ask the right people all my questions about these new products. (I had two name tags to show my “dual citizenship”!)

Silhouette Summit - New Products 2018

I’m working with Silhouette on another exciting project, but I can’t spill the beans on that yet. However, here’s what I CAN tell you about…

New Vinyl:

Brushed Metallic Vinyl

Available in black and silver (12″ x 6′ rolls; $9.99 MSRP). I think this will be a great addition to the collection of existing textured and metallic vinyls.

Glitter Vinyl

Available in black, blue, gold, green, lavender, pink, red, silver, and white (12″ x 6′ rolls; $9.99 MSRP). I know there has been glitter vinyl out there from other manufacturers, but I’m really excited about this since I work almost exclusively with Silhouette vinyl and I love glitter!

Textured Translucent Vinyl

Available in black, green, lavender, light blue, pink, and white (12″ x 4′ rolls; $9.99 MSRP). This vinyl has a shimmery surface, not quite glitter but definitely a subtle sparkle. And it’s see-through, so it looks great on glass or will show texture and designs beneath it if you layer it. I can’t wait to try this!

Strong Tack Transfer Tape

Silhouette Summit - New Products 2018

The glitter and translucent vinyl require a stronger transfer tape than standard transfer tape, so this special strong tack transfer tape will be available to use with them (12″ x 6′ rolls; $9.99 MSRP).

Oracal 651 Vinyl

Silhouette Summit - New Products 2018

Silhouette has partnered with Oracal to bring you the well-loved 651 glossy permanent adhesive vinyl. Colors available include azure blue, black, gold, ice blue, lilac, lime green, mint, red, silver, soft pink, white, and yellow (12″ x 4′ rolls; MSRP $9.99).

Oracal 651 Vinyl Sampler Packs

  • Basic: 6 sheets of 12″ x 12″ vinyl in azure blue, ice blue, lilac, lime green, red, and yellow ($12.99 MSRP)
  • Essentials: 6 sheets of 12″ x 12″ vinyl in black, gold, mint, silver, soft pink, and white ($12.99 MSRP)

Oratape

Transfer tape to go with Oracal 651 vinyl (12″ x 4′; $9.99 MSRP).

New Starter Kits:

Doming Starter Kit

Silhouette Summit - New Products 2018

I didn’t get a chance to play with this (or get detail shots other than a picture of their display poster), but this is an epoxy you apply with a syringe (no mixing) to give a glossy domed effect to things like print & cut stickers. Certain sticker paper needs doming laminate material to prevent color changes, I believe. ($29.99 MSRP)

Epoxy Resin Set

Refill for Doming kit. (6 fl. oz. syringe + 3 tips; $19.99 MSRP)

Doming Laminate Sheets

Refill for Doming kit (8 pk of 8.5 x 11″ sheets)

Silkscreen Starter Kit

Ok, this one is pretty appealing. The Silkscreen starter kit includes the frame, a squeegee, black fabric ink, heat transfer sheets, silkscreen sheets, and 10 exclusive designs. It works with all Silhouette fabric ink, but instead of using stencil vinyl to create a single project, this kit works well for multiples of the same design. ($39.99 MSRP)

I got to try it out and thought it was quite fun!

Silkscreen Sheets

Refills for the Silkscreen kit (5 pk of 12″ x 14″ sheets; $9.99 MSRP)

Blades and Mats:

Kraft Blade

Silhouette Summit - New Products 2018(photo by Silhouette America)

This new kraft blade is different than the standard AutoBlade or fabric blade because (drumroll…) it can cut felt! And all kinds of other thicker materials like denim and floral crepe paper. This will be a hot commodity, I’m sure! Everyone at Summit was asking when they could get their hands on one, myself included. (2 pk for $14.99 MSRP)

No fabric stabilizer necessary. To work effectively for thicker fabrics and other materials, however, it requires the use of a strong hold cutting mat.

Strong Hold Cutting Mat

For use with the kraft blade. (CAMEO 12 x 12″ $14.99; Portrait 8 x 12″ $12.99 MSRP)

Updated standard cutting mat

The standard mats are being updated, as well, for better visibility of the grid numbers and to indicate either end can be fed into the machine. The price will remain the same.

National Breast Cancer Promotional Products:

Silhouette is once again partnering with NCBF to bring us some lovely pink products that support a great cause.

  • Pink tool kit ($19.99)
  • Hot pink Portrait 2 dust cover ($6.99)
  • CAMEO 3 hot pink light tote ($14.99)
  • Pink vinyl sampler kit (12 x 12″ sheets of glitter pink, glossy dark pink, glossy pink, matte dark pink, matte pink, metallic silver for $9.99)

Machines:

CAMEO 3 Glitter Series

Silhouette Summit - New Products 2018

Available in light blue, white, light pink (NBCF promo machine), black, hot pink, and slate grey. These machines are a single color, inside and out, and have a shimmery-glitter sheen to them. I think the grey is my favorite! ($299.99 MSRP)

Silhouette Alta® 3D Printer

Silhouette Summit - New Products 2018

That’s right! Silhouette is producing its own 3D printer! It will come with its own software, Silhouette 3D, which is intended to give current Silhouette users a familiar interface and can even use existing Library designs from the Silhouette Design Store.

Mine should be arriving soon, and I already have the beta version of the software, so I can bring you tutorials for the Alta as I continue to produce content for Silhouette’s YouTube channel.

I realize this printer will not be for everyone (like those who already have high-end 3D printers), but for a crafter like me who likes to experiment with whatever Silhouette offers, this will be a fun new tool. Silhouette 3D will open .STL and .OBJ files, and it uses 1.75 mm non-proprietary PLA filament. ($299.99 MSRP)

  • Alta Platform Tape (50 sheets; $9.99 MSRP)

Silhouette Studio v4.2

Last, but not least, Silhouette Studio® version 4.2 is currently in beta testing and will be made available to the general public once we beta testers give it a real workout. We’ve been submitting issues so the software team can work out the kinks.

Among the exciting new features are:

  • Flexishapes
  • Puzzle generator
  • Word art
  • Color fonts
  • Selection lasso
  • Thumbnails for file previews in Windows Explorer (and Mac)
  • Print bleed
  • Commercial font indicator
  • Material usage monitor
  • Library overhaul
  • Font creator

I won’t go into further detail now, and some of those features will not be available in every edition (Basic vs. Designer vs. Designer Plus vs. Business).

As a reward for reading all the way to the end (whew!), you can have the font I created while at Silhouette Summit with my own handwriting. Creating a font in v4.2 (Business Edition) is as simple as printing out the font-creator page, writing your letters out in the boxes, and scanning it in. You can even edit individual glyphs when creating your own font. Once your font is created, you can use it like any font in your other programs, too!

Click this link for my personal Kelly print.ttf font for you to download and install to use for free! (You may see an error message about the preview, but you can still download the .ttf file.)

Questions?

I know you may have some questions, and there’s no way I could pack in everything I learned into a single post, so please ask if you want to know more!

  • Wow! I am impressed with all the new products! I look forward to working with a number of these new products once they are available. Although I probably would not invest in the 3D Printer, it does intrigue me! I look forward to your posts about the many new products! Thank you for the Kelly font! Happy Memorial Day!

    • Hi Andrea. I received an early kit in June but it was still a prototype at that time. I think it will be available to the public in late summer or early fall.

  • Any news on the release date for the pink cameo? My wife wants to join in on the fun but waiting for these to come out

    • I haven’t heard an official release date for the new colored CAMEOs, but I know the light pink version will be available for purchase the month of October because it coincides with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The proceeds for the light pink CAMEO sold in October get donated to NBCF.

  • any idea for the adhesive cardstock essentials pack coming back and being upgraded for the Curio? As well, Heat Transfer for light and dark for curio?

    • Hi Debra. I think the adhesive cardstock has been discontinued for good. The existing heat transfer for light and dark fabrics should work with the Curio. All of those thin Silhouette materials can be cut with any Silhouette cutting machine, including the Curio.

    • I talked to the “powers that be” with Silhouette and they said it has been pushed back to mid-2019. I wish I had better news for you!
