You do need to know what edition you’re already running, and there are several places to find it. The easiest is to look in the upper left corner of your Silhouette Studio screen, or go to Help > About Silhouette Studio… It will tell you very clearly if you’re running Basic, Designer Edition, Designer Edition Plus, or Business Edition.
Read the explanation under Which Software Edition Should You Buy? once you know what edition you’re already running. If you’re still not sure, ask in the comments and I’ll let you know.
