Wooden Clock Decor: Silhouette Tutorial

Wooden clock decor by Kelly Wayment

Hi friends! I’ve got a new tutorial for you on the Silhouette Blog for this wooden clock decor.

I made this (non-functioning) clock with layers of thin adhesive wood sheets and thin chipboard. I even cut it on my trusty little Silhouette Portrait, so know that you can use any cutting machine with these thin materials.

I used this clock design (#37096) because I love the layered wood look, and this one was just the right amount of complexity. Very simple designs like these Scandinavian deer also look fantastic with the wood sheets. I had considered buying a Glow Forge this past year, but I talked myself out of it every time because I can’t invest the time in another major hobby. I’m pretty happy with this cheater method of getting the wood look.

Please note, I consider this an intermediate tutorial, so beginners might want to start with my easier classes and tutorials tagged as beginner. Check out the full wooden clock decor tutorial HERE!

What kinds of faux wood projects would you like to see next? I’m not done playing with these wood sheets.

  • That is SO cool! The Silhouette Portrait did a great job! I can’t believe you cut that with just a regular blade rather than using a knife blade. That’s really good!
I also thought about a Glow Forge but I’ve heard from a user that says it takes so much time to cut anything. If you wanted to start a small business he would have bought a regular laser machine (like my son-in-law has). I decided to purchase a sublimation printer and a heat press 8 in 1 (from Heat Press Nation, GREAT customer service from them btw!!) I’m going to use my Silhouette Cameo 3 to make some designs to put on mugs. We’ll see if that works out to make things for my friends and family.

    • Thank you, Donna! There are so many options out there for machines to help us be creative, and I’ve found my Silhouette machines to be everything I need. I haven’t tried sublimation yet, but people sure love it. Good luck!
