Sketch Pens by Chomas Creations

I’ve been using sketch designs for the Silhouette again, and this time with some new sketching pens!  Amy Chomas from Chomas Creations asked me to try out her sketch pens, and they are fun!  Two sets are available:  a 10-pack of glitter and a 10-pack of assorted.  I found the range of colors to be excellent!  I was able to pick out appropriate colors for each of my two projects here, trying to coordinate the pattern paper I had on hand.

I’ve got some back-to-back birthdays for my kids approaching, so it was time to make some birthday party invitations.  I kept it simple because we may be mailing these instead of hand delivering, since we’ll be on vacation until nearly party time.  (No fancy embellishments.)

For my daughter’s invitation I picked a bunch of dingbat fonts from DB Hoos Birthday, then divided them in the Cut Style window for three separate pen colors.  I just switched the gel pen between each color without removing the mat, and re-defined which shapes to cut.  I then used a single letter from that font to make the birthday present cutout and added some glitter glue on the bow to go along with the glittery pen colors.  I like glitter.  🙂

For my son’s invitation I found a super cute cupcake from Silhouette’s Block Party portfolio CD.  It was intended as a sketch design; I just changed pen colors for different parts of it.  There are several shades of blue in the 20 pens from Chomas Creations, so I used two different blues on the cake.  The font on the “party” word is called LD Sketch.  It’s not appropriate to cut all those little lines with the blade, but perfect for sketching before cutting!  I sketched and cut it on pattern paper.

On the back sides of these invitations are the details about the party.  I didn’t bother with a folded card for these. Here are a couple of shots where you can (hopefully) see the glitter and shimmer.

The Chomas Creations pens are about as easy to use as the Silhouette brand Sketch pens, the pen holder is nice and heavy so it fits in the blade holder consistently every time, and the range of colors for the price can’t be beat! If you check out the Chomas Creations website you’ll see they also sell these pens and adapter for the Cricut, an embossing kit for the Silhouette or Cricut, a mini Sharpie kit, and more.

I plan on doing more projects with these fun gel pens in the near future, but in the meantime you can also check out the fun things Amy has done with her tools on Amy’s blog.
