Valentines for Kids

Valentines for Kids - Giant Smarties Trains

I know Valentine’s Day has come and gone, but I need to share what I did for my kids’ Valentines this year. I used a pen in my Cameo to write “I choo-choo-choose you.  Happy Valentine’s Day” on train shapes, then had the blade cut them out. I still like to make homemade Valentines, but with three kids in grade school that meant almost 80 Valentines! Which meant something simple. I bought packages of extra-large smarties to sandwich between the trains using Scotch tape. The sketching was the most time-consuming part, but I was able to do other tasks while the Cameo did all the work. Wish it would cook dinner and do the laundry, too, but you can’t have everything. 😉

My 5th grader son wasn’t exactly thrilled with the cutesy trains at first, but I think he was O.K. with them in the end. Note to self: next year he needs something “cool” like last year’s Robot Valentines.  Thanks for stopping by!

  • These are super cute! I have a little stamp that says that made by Technique Tuesdays….a little set of 4 or 5 sentiments like that. I will definitely have to case this next year! Thanks for the inspiration!

    • Silhouette has so many shapes available, Sue, that any little sayings like that would be easy to find a shape for. (And stamping would be even faster than sketching.) 🙂

  • You were busy! I didn't know they had extra large Smarties…I love Smarties! The trains are really cute, love what you did with them. Great job!

    • I love Smarties, too. They came in cute boxes of 24 at Walmart in the Valentine goodies section, obviously packed just for Valentine's Day. I was hoping there would be extra so I could sneak a few, but we used every singe one of them for the kids' Valentines and lucked out because we got a couple extras. I bought them before I knew one of my kids had 32 students in his class! Yikes.

  • Well bummer, I probably missed out on getting them then…there's always next year. Wonder if I can stay "smart" until then! 🙂
