Christmas in…August?

snowflake-card-2

I don’t normally do Christmas cards in the middle of the summer, but my friend Barb set a challenge for us to make Christmas cards this week, well last week, but better late than never.  ๐Ÿ™‚  I figured it sounded fun, especially if I came up with a design I liked so I could check that off my list before December!

As I started throwing ideas onto my page, I decided to make a round card with a snowflake.  (I’ve never actually made a round card before.)  Little did I know that Barb had the same idea!  And we’re both giving away a free Studio cutting file so maybe you can check Christmas-card designs off your list, too!  But you still have to make them; I won’t do that part for you.  ๐Ÿ™‚

I used some scraps from my stash and couldn’t resist using this self-adhesive holographic paper I picked up just for fun at JoAnn’s the other day.  I just treated it like vinyl because it’s so thin, including weeding and using transfer tape to stick it to a duplicate cut on white cardstock.  It doesn’t photograph very well, but it sure is sparkly!

Here is the link to my free Studio cutting file. It includes everything you see–the snowflake, all layers of the circles, and the circular card base.

And here is a link to Barb’s Christmas card blog post with another freebie for you.

Merry Christmas!

Supplies:
White cardstock (Wausau 110# Exact Index), Red pattern paper (Basic Grey “Fusion”), Mini polka dots pattern paper (Making Memories “Fa La La”), Green with small polka dots pattern paper (Lily Bee Design “Jingle”), Self-stick Holographic paper (Darice), Color Box Chalk inkpad (“Dark Brown”)

  • Good Morning Kelly,

ROFL – I tossed and turned half the night thinking of my blog post and worrying I'd sleep in and miss it, therefore I for sure only slept an hour or two and so almost did sleep in.

Twas so worth it and fun. I think I will do collabs with a few more of our talented ladies at Silhouette Plus forums. Its really inspiring to work with someone.

I'm honored to post with you – your work is always imaginative and top notch!

Thanks so much for working with me, I know what a busy life you have (ps – how did yesterday's weeding go?)

    Blessings,
    Barb

    • Thanks, Barb! I'm glad I'm not the only one who loses sleep over little stuff like that. ๐Ÿ™‚ It's fun to work with such a talented and positive person like you! (And weeding was quite productive, even though we were few in number.)

  • I did a round card last year with a popup snowflake. I think I like yours better. I also like Barb's. Thanks for the files

Actually I guess it is not too early to start thinking about making Christmas cards as my sister e-mailed me asking for ideas.

Off to put on Christmas music and work on some gifts.

    • Lol…my husband loves Christmas so much he's been playing Christmas music since last fall. Ever since he discovered an internet radio station that plays Christmas music year-round on his iPad. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Kelly,
Thanks for all the fun things you do on your blog so that the rest of us can glean from your ideas, use your downloads, and be creative as well! You're awesome! Thank you.

  • Hi Kelly, I love this file so thank you for sharing … would you mind sharing with me the way to cut self-adhesive holographic paper ? I bought some thinking I could use it like vinyl but every time I try to cut it, it rips and tears. what blade settings do you use? speed and thickness? I put mine on the standard Vinyl setting on the cameo.

Thanks in advance for some help.

    • I used the older vinyl settings, and it worked just fine with my Cameo. Blade on 1, speed 8, thickness 9. If that doesn't work, I'd slow down the speed and then tweak the thickness last. I hope that works for you!
