Bee-lated Birthday Card

Hello! I really did not intend to take the entire month of August off, so I apologize if you were relying on me as your sole source of inspiration. 😉  We went away for two weeks and dropped our four kids off at my parents’ house while my husband and I took a 7-day Alaskan Cruise. It was glorious!  I won’t bore you with details, but suffice it to say that being gone for two weeks, plus preparing the week before, plus playing catch up for a week after returning really does take a whole month.

That’s my excuse for my absence, but I’m ready to get back in the game! Here is a cute little card to start my back-to-blogging efforts. I made it for a friend who really deserved a card, but I was not ready when her birthday arrived. I should make 20 of these, because I miss birthdays all the time.

Belated Birthday CardI used my Silhouette CAMEO to sketch and cut the sentiment (using Jack and Jill Sketch font and a scribble circle with the Designer Edition sketch tools).

I print and cut the cute little bee after filling in a cut file with colors and opting to only cut the edge.

I cut the honeycomb background out of yellow adhesive cardstock and mounted it on a white card base.

Then I used some foam adhesive to pop the tag and bee off the front of the card. Super easy, super cute, 10-minute card. Who can be sad about me missing their birthday when they get this cute bee-lated birthday card instead?

Silhouette and Curio News

Now for some Silhouette-related business. I just bought a Silhouette Curio and am experimenting so I can share its abilities with you. Most of the products to be used with it (metal etching, stippling, emboss paper, deep-cut blade, large base, etc.) are not yet available, so everyone but Silhouette in-house employees are at a disadvantage for showing off ALL of its features. Soon, though.

The Silhouette Design Store is recently changed and in beta mode, so it appears like most of my shape links are not working. You should still be able to plug the design ID# in to find the shapes I list. I think once we get used to the changes, it will be a better site. I’ll make a video of navigating the new design store as soon as it’s finalized, or maybe an interim video in its current state if I can get to it soon.

I’m looking forward to sharing all these things with you, along with more videos in the works. I’m celebrating having all four of my kids in school all day since my youngest started first grade. That means more uninterrupted crafting time and video lessons! Too bad I still have a part-time job in an accounting firm, but at least I can schedule my time better to work around my crafting. 🙂

If you have questions about the Curio or any other Silhouette-related matters (or anything, really), please leave me a comment or send me a note through my contact form!

  • I love your card, so perfect for that birthday that was missed. I have to say my husband and I also took an Alaskan Cruise several years ago and it was wonderful, so glad you had such a great time! Welcome back!

  • what is a sketch font? Can this font only be used for sketching.

Kelly, I was going to ask if you had time to visit my Sister-in-law in C G. I assume with you dropping off the kids you did not have much time for visiting outside of your parents.

    • A sketch font is a specialized font created just for sketching with digital cutters using sketch pens or sketch markers. It basically draws a line on top of itself, so it has nowhere to fill with color like regular fonts. If you purchase a sketch font through Silhouette it may show up in your other software programs that use fonts, but it’s usually very difficult to see because it’s so skinny.

No, I didn’t have time to visit her this time around, although we have gone shopping together with my mom on previous trips. 🙂
