Flower Cart Box Card and September Deals

Isn’t this flower cart box card adorable? It’s one of Lori Whitlock’s designs (ID #320540), and she always designs the cutest things! Read on to find out more details about the card and the special Portrait 3 bundle deal and other discounts in September at Silhouette.

Flower Cart Box Card

I made this card for a friend using my new Silhouette Portrait 3 cutting machine. I love the compact size, and it does not slow me down when I want to make a cute card like this. Yes, I love the larger size of the Cameo when I need to cut a lot of things from the same color, or a design that’s at least 12 in. wide. However, for little bits and pieces like this with many different colors in small amounts, the Portrait is perfect.

Lori’s box cards follow a similar pattern, so the assembly was pretty straightforward. Here is the assembly tutorial for a related card, and she shows this flower cart at the end (about the 16:40 mark).

Two tools you’ll want in your arsenal (besides the Silhouette Portrait) for a project like this are the Pick-Me-Up tool and a needle tip glue applicator filled with liquid paper glue.

I used mostly cardstock scraps for this card, but for the wood layer I used Silhouette’s 8.5 x 11 in. wood sheets. The wood is self-adhesive with a backing liner, so I went ahead and just ran the sheet directly in my Portrait 3 with no mat. It cut through the wood and left the lining intact, so it’s just like cutting thin wood stickers. (If you’ve used the original 5 x 7 in. wood sheets, you’ll find these newer wood sheets are better. Stronger adhesive and no noticeable curling.)

The sketch pen was handy for the “fresh cut flowers” sign instead of going with print & cut. Most of these elements could have been simplified with print & cut, actually, but I wanted lots of layers this time. The Portrait 3 uses a sketch pen adapter (included) for existing black-body Silhouette sketch pens, but I used a ball-point pen in the newest pen holder built for the Cameo 4 and Portrait 3.

Flower cart box card

Because it’s a box card, there’s very little writing space. I left the flower cart as a decoration and made a simple card to accompany it. Because Silhouette works with vector designs, it was easy to choose a single flower and leaf from the original file and enlarge it to fill the front card space better.

I even cut the extra large flower on my Portrait 3 with the Silhouette Go app. It’s fun! Find out more about Silhouette Go mobile app HERE.
